Detroit Become Human, Connor’s Relationship with Humanity

Abstract

This essay explores the video game Detroit Become Human and its character Connor’s relationship with humanity. The video game is interactive as it allows the player to control different characters, make dialogue choices, and make decisions. The game also has quick-time events that the player performs. It is set in a futuristic Detroit city where humans can buy androids and have them perform daily tasks. Connor is an android tasked with capturing deviant androids who have gained self-awareness and act against their programming. We are shown Connor’s humanity despite being an android through his relationship with humans and other androids. The essay explores Connor’s relationship with fellow detective Hank. Hank reacts based on Connor’s actions. Connor can follow the mission closely or stray away from it. The essay focuses on Connor’s actions in The Bridge, Eden Club, and his interactions with Hank, which showcase his humanity.
