Have We Lost The Plot?
Class: ENGL 3308: Writing Textual Analysis with Dr. Hüsing (Fall 2025)
Abstract
This essay brings up the fact that in a world faced with strong female characters in modern pop culture in multiple movies geared towards children, the common physicality of all of these characters seem to be the same. Through research and development, this work goes over how female characters from Wonder Woman to Judy Hopps, although be strong, be pleasing to the male gaze and asks the question “Have we lost the plot?” Overall, exploring the feminist theory through characters that are seen to be easy to prey upon, as well as smaller characters that seem to be made to be pleasing to the typical male gaze. Were these characters made to teach children about role models or were these characters made for parents to tolerate watching these movies and seeing these characters over and over again?
