How D&D aids Creative, Emotional, and Moral Development
Class: ENGL 3361: Multimodal Digital Writing with Dr. Hüsing (Spring 2026)
Abstract
This presentation introduces basic ideas of the use of Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) and Table Top Role Playing game (TTRPG) for the use of mental development primarily in areas of creativity, emotional, and moral development. This infographic is backed by my own 10 years of experience in the TTRPG and D&D community and research documents from Adams, Sidhu, Carter, and Wright. Past research on this topic has all followed the idea that creative and team-oriented games like D&D can assist individuals in developing various mental and social skills. The goal of this infographic is to convey these ideas and gain interest in not only a growing hobby but the possibility of its use as a tool to aid in social development. I hope that others will see this infographic and gain the interest to look further into past and future research to further the ideas of other forms of “gameified learning,” in which the use of game systems and rules enhances the learning experience across various fields.
