Abstract

Music can be many things. There are songs to enhance your mood, get you up and dance, to sing, or simply for background noise. For some people, music offers a transcendent feeling in their body and mind out of this world. Rosalia understands the power of music, of an album. The greatness of a cohesive collection of sound and storytelling forms a unique sense of illumination. Think of a powerful, well-written poem, where every line, every word has meaning. In this album, LUX, every second was well-thought-out, and every story has its unique, yet universal experience. Rosalia sings in fourteen different languages, within eighteen songs, and references ten religious saints of different cultures and traditions. I present how this partial hagiographical text embodies the divination for us to be illuminated, through the story of the mentioned saints who have accessed the divine, and served as a gateway for civilization in their respective times.
