SEC Bias on ESPN
Class: ENGL 3361: Multimodal Digital Writing with Dr. Hüsing (Spring 2026)
Abstract
Through this infographic I aimed to highlight some of the bias in the college football world. Through a thorough examination of research and popular sources I aim to shed a light on, and briefly summarize, ESPN’s bias towards the Southeastern Conference. The Southeastern Conference (or SEC) is a division 1 college athletic conference founded in 1933 to govern college athletics in the south and foster healthy competition. ESPN is a cable network that airs sports broadcasts and hosts College Gameday which is their very successful college football talk show. ESPN and the SEC also have a broadcasting exclusivity deal that is worth over 300 million dollars. I close with an examination of scholarship that explores ESPN’s possible bias towards the SEC in its coverage of “National Signing Day”.
